Congratulations! You are about to embark on your new career as an engineer. Entry level engineering jobs are a great way to come into a company, hit the ground running, and quickly have an impact.

Of course, you will not be expected to know everything on your first day of work. You may be sent to classes, meetings, and job-specific training. You may be asked to attend requirements reviews for upcoming products or product modifications; design reviews, where you will be exposed to the company's design methodologies; and test reviews, gaining the experience of validating that the product does what it is intended to do.

You may be assigned to a mentor, who can guide you through the tools and processes that are used for day-to-day tasks. Your mentor is someone who can also check over your work, help you prepare for your own reviews, and give you advice as needed so that you can stay firmly on track for success.

Be alert and enthusiastic, ask questions, and be prepared to work in a variety of different areas.

You will find that management rewards flexibility, and being willing to work on whatever needs to get done is always sensible advice. Work with a sense of urgency. Focus on quality, quantity, and timeliness.

Finally, remember that you are now on a team. This is not the classroom, where you need to work alone. Ask questions, share your ideas, and join the team. Welcome to the company!
