What kind of training does a civil engineer need?
General civil engineering begins with a four-year accredited degree, usually with a major in "civil engineering." Many engineers also go on for additional specific training in their selected sub-discipline. In order to become a Chartered Engineer (CEng), an engineer must register with the Engineering Council, hold a master's degree, have professional experience, and pass a battery of tests. Chartered engineers are usually eligible for management positions and a higher pay grade.
